PokerStars announced that effective February 15th they will stop offering Double or Nothing Sit and Gos. It is safe to assume that the collusion issues helped with this decision. Last year PokerStars refunded over $1,000,000 to players that had fallen victim to a Chinese collusion ring.
The new Fifty50 tournaments will be the closest replacement offered. These new tournaments at PokerStars are similar to Double or Nothing in that the tournament ends when half of the field has been eliminated. The difference is that only half of the prize pool is divided equally among the remaining players. The other half of the prize pool is paid based on chip stacks. PokerStars feels that this should remove much of the collusion concerns since soft play late in the tournaments will hurt player’s chip stacks and will affect their prize in the end. The rake for these tournaments is also lower than the Double or Nothings.
