I made a joking post yesterday that has become a bit more serious today. Calvin Ayre, James Philip, David Ferguson, and Derrick Maloney were charged with running an illegal gambling business and money laundering conspiracy. The federal government alleges that at least $100 million was moved through two illegal processors. The investigation started back in 2005, and was just completed in January 2012. You can read the story that I wrote for PartTimePoker here.
I think that it is becoming very clear that any site still using a .com domain and has catered to U.S. players since the UIGEA went into effect needs to start rebranding their company. Online poker in the U.S. is looking bleak. I have been very concerned about the liquidity of Cake Poker for years. Merge Gaming is probably safe, but something does not feel right. Their withdrawals are taking around two months right now.
Where Can U.S. Players Play Online Poker?
I suggest that U.S. poker players choose True Poker, AmericasCardroom, or Intertops. True Poker and AmericasCardroom are both on the Winning Poker Network which was already indicted and did not miss a step. Intertops is on the Cake Poker Network, but has their own cashier. All three of these online poker rooms are paying out withdrawal requests in less than a week, sometimes within a day or two. There is still a risk to playing anywhere as a U.S. player, but I feel the risks are lower on the rooms I describe above.
